How to Plan Your Landscape the Right Way

How to plan your landscape the right way

Does your landscape attract different commentary? Is it awesome or is it just an opportunity to laugh at the faded flowers and brown grass. Every homeowner wants an attractive home landscape with many of them taking up the task of landscaping in their yards. Whether it is a complete overhaul or just some minor changes on your yard, there are some important aspects to bear in mind. While many homeowners will rush to the local gardening store to secure tools for the job, the few smart ones know that planning is the key to a breathtaking yard. Besides, it is easy to fall into the temptation to buy plants and flowers that appear beautiful in your garden only to realize how wrongful they are for your landscape. If you intend to create a cohesive, beautiful and thriving landscape, here is some advice you should not ignore.

Know Your Yard

Before you even rush to buy any materials, it is important to have a clear picture of how your yard looks like the changes you want to make and how you want it to look like. Try to draft rough sketches of your ideas so that you can establish what you will need for the landscape designing phase. Think about your yard’s topography, the soil type and the regional climate of your locality. For the topographic aspect, look at how water drains in your landscape and devise a plan to promote its movement.

The Plants and Structures

The architectural features of your landscape will be expensive but permanent. You may need to have them placed in stages. Start with the driveway, put up some good steps and walkways and hen fence later on. Choose materials that will spruce your landscape instead of ruining its harmony. Although plantings are easy to install and relocate, be sure to have them in the right places. Flowers, although need replanting can fill in gaps in your yard until the woody plants are tall enough to stand on their own.

Plan a Functional Entryway

Your home’s entrance is key to a first-time impression, so you need to pay a lot of attention to it. Make your home’s entryway bright and inviting. You can use structures and plants to guide visitors to where you can receive them most gracefully. You can go a notch higher and dramatize the front door with an accent shrub, pots of geraniums or a lamppost. Driveways too must be easily visible. A simple, low plant can mark a turn. Trees or shrubs that obstruct the view should be removed for safety’s sake.

Create an Attractive Front

A house façade gives your home a good appearance and a meticulously done front yard highlights all the pleasing points and masks any weak ones. You should not be put off by aesthetics but instead, create a balance. If your lawn requires or shall adapt to your desire for an Oriental or colonial garden, it must all start in the front yard. Landscape themes are successful only if they balance and unify all the yard aspects carefully.
